Barbara Donaldson has two decades of experience in education. She focuses on building a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility, and using research-based practices to ensure all students learn at high levels. As a literacy coach, staff developer, and district leader, Barbara helped Parkview Elementary School become a Model PLC at Work® school in 2022.
Barbara served in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, reading teacher/specialist, literacy coach, and district leadership. She works to empower teachers to embrace continuous professional learning and effective literacy practices to impact student learning.
As a literacy coach, Barbara has walked alongside teachers and teams by co-teaching, modeling, and collaboratively analyzing literacy data. She has also facilitated professional learning regarding identifying and unpacking standards and coached teachers to design formative and summative assessments that resulted in responsive, data-driven instruction. She has presented nationally and regionally.
Barbara holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education (grades 1–8) and a master’s degree in reading education. She earned certifications for reading teacher (K–12) and for administrative reading specialist (K–12), and her postgraduate training includes reading recovery and literacy coaching. Barbara was a 2008 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellowship winner.
